Gillian Hahn’s Gallery – (Fynarts Festival, Hermanus)

Last weekend, Rose and I took a day trip out to the Hermanus Fynarts Festival to indulge in all things art … as well as some delicious salmon & butternut soup, yum-yum fried calamari and home-brewed Hermanus Harbour Ale at the Pear Tree Bistro.

We had a fantastic time, popping in and out of galleries all day and being blown away with the creative endeavours from some very talented people!

I’ll be writing a few blogs on the festival with a chosen few artists or events I‘d like to share.

Because Gillian was an old school friend of mine, we started off at Gillian Hahn’s Gallery about 1.5km up the R320. One of the few galleries that was well sign posted and genuinely welcoming. Gillian’s big smile was there to greet us. She offered us each a glass of wine or sweet hannepoort, a perfect cure for Saturday’s chilly, morning air.

Gillian Hahn (nee Jagger) has been painting for over 30 years and has only recently been ‘on show’ for the general public. I can’t believe it’s taken her so long to have her first solo exhibition! Her paintings are happy and vibrant and her use of thick oil paint make them very textural, you’ll want to touch them. Gillian paints mostly scenery from the Hemel and Aarde Valley.

Here are a few of my absolute favourites:
