Holiday Workshop – Day 1: Safari Painting

Holiday Workshop – Day 1: Safari Painting

In The Zone started their April school holiday programme with a safari-inspired acrylics-on-canvas painting. Each child got an A3 stretched canvas, a bunch of plastic wild animals to choose from, pencils, paper and very inter-active discussion about wild animals.

After drawing their lion, giraffe, bat, rhino etc and a tree, the kids transformed the background of their canvasses into an African sunset using reds, yellows and white paint. Then they turned their canvasses around and painted their ground and waterholes in blues, black and a touch of white, for their pending reflections.

Once all the paint had dried, they traced their creatures and trees using carbon paper and then flipped their drawings to create the reflections.

Using a fine brush and black paint, they painted in their outlines for their silhouettes and then filled them in using a bigger brush. The final touch was their signature using the special silver pen.

The kids had a wonderful time and produced amazing pieces to take home.

The children also created their own A3 self-portrait using oil pastels. They were quirky and very creative! Each one bringing out their own self-expression and character.

They also got the opportunity to play with scraper boards – always a favourite amongst the children, no matter what their age!

  • NOTE: We don’t touch their paintings or art pieces – ever. It’s all 100% their own work. We purely guide them through the process.
