HOLIDAY WORKSHOP – DAY 4: GECKO MANIA

Day 4 at In The Zone school holiday workshops had the learners painting up a storm with their wooden, cut-out geckos. Boy, did they LOVE this project!

They first painted their gecko tails black and then chose different colours for the rest of the gecko’s body. Some had one colour, some were multi-coloured and others were blended colours. Every child expressed themselves in their own, unique way. It was brilliant to watch.

Masking tape was used to create a ‘stained-glass’ effect over all the tails. This technique allowed the kids to make up their own colour patterns. Once the paint was dry, the magic masking tape was removed.

The rest of the morning was assisting the children to ‘fill-in’ their geckos with all kinds of patterns and textures. As you can see, every single gecko was completely different, in every way.

The geckos were awesome! A lovely piece of art that can be displayed at home: on a bedroom door, or in the kitchen or at the front door etc. This very special piece will become a keep-sake for many years to come.
