Muizenberg Open Studios: Charlotte Corbett

Muizenberg Open Studios: Charlotte Corbett

On the 8th of October, In The Zone spent a lovely morning taking a walk down the tranquil Palmer Street in Muizenberg. Artists in the area had opened their homes to show case their beautiful artworks. It was a truly a lovely experience not only seeing the wealth of artistic talent in the area, but also being welcomed into the delightful old houses that make up the surrounds. One of the houses that stood out was that of artist & ceramicist, Charlotte Corbett.

This was initially their family holiday home up until 19 years ago when it became their permanent residence and Charlotte’s studio. We were welcomed with a wonderful display of art work on the front balcony and a little table selling all sorts of interesting trinkets.

Charlotte paints an array of colourful, happy acrylics on paper and canvas. They are very appealing as she has a wonderful sense of colour and a semi abstract style which is both decorative and soothing.

We were invited to go through to the back of the house where we found ourselves in am eclectically decorated, quaint garden courtyard with a pretty mosaic fountain co-created by Charlotte and her husband. Here we sat and whiled away the time enjoying the peace, tranquility and the lovely breakfast sherry supplied. It was heard to leave such a delightful setting, but the rest of the Art Festival was waiting for us to explore.
