Workshop: Make Your Own Boardgame

Workshop: Make Your Own Boardgame

Day 1 – In The Zone hosted their “Paint & Create” workshops at HBIS during the September school holidays. The learners created their own Noughts & Crosses boardgame, but with a twist.

Instead of O and X’s, each learner chose their own opposites. We had a lovely mixed bag of:

  • Ice cream cones vs hot dogs
  • Pirates vs parrots
  • Watermelons vs kiwi fruit
  • Glasses vs Zigzags (Harry Potter)
  • Stars vs moons

After the children masked their own boards, they painted them with a contrasting colour. While their boards dried, they got creative painting their own set of rocks. They had fun exploring colour mixing and layering. The results were awesome!

The next step was to peel off the masking tape from their boards and start painting complementary decorations around the edges to suit their rocks. Those that finished early, got to play some “new and improved” noughts and crosses and have a snack! Art sure makes us hungry!

A very productive morning was had by all and everyone went home with a fantastic boardgame to play with friends and family.
