Workshop: Skyline Sparkles

Workshop: Skyline Sparkles

Day 4 – In The Zone was back at Hout Bay International School for a week long creative workshop with junior school learners.

Today’s project was an acrylic-on-canvas painting of skylines and sparkles.

Before the sparkly magic exploded across their skies, our little Picasso’s painted their canvas backgrounds in dark blues and black. They learned how to grade and blend colours. The paintings were then left in the sun to dry while they continued to draw.

The learners composed a set of buildings, making sure they had some tall and short ones, fat and skinny ones and some with odd shapes and angles etc. Once completed they traced their design using carbon paper onto their dry canvas.

All their buildings were painted in flat black to create a silhouette against their night skies.

Brightly lit windows were added, taking into account all the different shapes and sizes of windows one gets in a city.

The final, exciting part of the painting was to add fireworks or stars using metallic paint pens.

A very happy, sparkly project for all. They should all be very proud of their efforts.

Thank you to Hout Bay International School, the parents/guardians and most of all to the learners who participated, it was a great week! Rose & Kim loved it every moment.

In The Zone hopes to be back during the next school holidays. Watch this space!
