FynArts: Lembu Gallery

We met Welcome at the Lembu Gallery in Hermanus during the FynArts Festival 2019. He was busy lino-printing fabric right before our eyes.

There was a strong smell of ink (which reminded us of old, red, stoep polish) as we watch Welcome go about printing African-inspired designs onto fabric. After he has printed many layers of coloured panels, he prints graphics of animals on top. Once dry, finishing touches like dots, beads and details are added.

Each piece of fabric (runner or tablecloth) is unique and very African. It was great to see their pieces not only displayed in Lembu Gallery but also in other galleries and shops around Hermanus. The fabric is a perfect tourist (or local) buy as it’s light and easy to pack and beautifully made.
