Holiday Workshops: Build-A-Robot

Holiday Workshops: Build-A-Robot

A 3-hour creative workshop at In The Zone had our young designers making a robot out of all sorts of bits and pieces. We had masonite boards, egg boxes, extendable piping, old capsule packaging, tomato paste tin cans, cable ties, wire, bits of wood, pot scourers, steel wool, Coke tabs, super-duper reflectors, metal chains and a whole bunch more stuff PLUS the paint. Always the paint!

The boys had fun drawing up their design and then turning their drawings into a decorative, hanging robot. They enjoyed using all the tools like drilling holes with a drill and using pliers to twist wire. Some covered their boards in aluminium foil while others painted theirs.

The end results were out-of-this-world! From big eyed, chained legged robots, to robots that shot fire out of their chest, to Robo, the dog-robot, who could vacuum up birds! Who knew?

A fun and messy and sticky day was had by all. Well done boys! Now beam me up Scottie.
