June School Holiday Workshops

June School Holiday Workshops

In The Zone (Plumstead) hosted another week of very successful, crazy-creative workshops during the June/July school holidays.

We take a maximum of 8 children a day (6 – 14 years) which allows us to facilitate an action-packed creative project with gentle guidance throughout. Children learn all kinds of techniques while having fun making their very own masterpiece. We do not touch their work – it’s 100% their own doing.

The Double Portrait

Each learner was given 2 x A4 stretched canvases: one to paint a ‘normal’ portrait on, and the other to paint themselves as an animal that would reflect their own personality.

The 3-D Box People

Learners had to think of scenarios of where people would gather and then paint their box’s venue, along with a cardboard backdrop. The sucker-stick people were then added to their scene. For example, we had a hiking, a camping and a beach scene which even included a giant whale!

Day-of-the-Dead Mexican Sugarskulls

The learners loved this one as they got to grips with drawing a giant skull and then decorating it in bright patterns and colours.

The Painted Gift Box

Each child was given a large, white cardboard suitcase to paint as a wrapped gift with gift tag, but unfortunately, they had “run out of wrapping paper” so they had to paint various bits of different wrapping paper to cover their gift. It was a higgledy-piggledy fun painting day. These suitcase-gifts could then be used to store special goodies inside.

All in all it was a very fun week, with both children, parents, and ITZ peeps being thrilled with the results. Our little studio is definitely our happy-place which spills over into our workshops, art classes and art parties.

We do hope that the next set of workshops in September will be as successful. Book early to avoid disappointment.
